The dataset catalogue information about research or management projects that have used remote devices to record behavioural, physiological or environmental data from free-ranging animals. The purpose of this dataset is to act as a conduit by which animal telemetry data, ideas, analysis and statistical tools may be shared between interested parties throughout Australasia. The animal telemetry projects collated in this dataset have been collated from peer-reviewed scientific papers published between 2000 and 2013. This represents the first-step in the creation of an Australasian focused database for animal telemetry research and management projects. If you have undertaken a telemetry project and it is not listed here, whether the study findings have been published or not, then please send details about the study to the dataset contact person. If applicable, the details will be incorporated. These data were compiled as part of the ACEAS working group project titled "Advancing the application of animal telemetry data in ecosystem management".

This record is a comprehensive list of vascular plant species from the Biological Survey of South Australia. Preparation from raw data obtained via the Advanced Ecological Knowledge and Observation System (AEKOS; now deprecated) data portal involved the selection of data fields, the removal of intraspecific taxa (only genus and species used to define individual taxa) and removal of duplicate records and those not determined to species.

The record contains information on the five-minute, point-count, bird survey data conducted in the Southern Forests Experimental Forest Landscape (SFEFL), Warra Site for the period between 2010 to 2011. Data such as age class of study plots, Landscape Disturbance Index (LDI), bird survey period, bird species identification details, observation distance, number of individuals, height and direction of observation at a minimum distance of 25 meters are provided.

Wood block decomposition assessment at the Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation site is part of a global program looking at the influence of microbes and invertebrates on wood decay. A common protocol was developed exposing small (~400 cm3) pieces of a wood-substrate (untreated Pinus radiata) to the environment excluding and not-excluding macroinvertebrates (e.g. termites) by the use of a plastic mesh.

This record is on the beetle survey conducted at the Warra Site, as part of the Southern Forests Experimental Forest Landscape (SFEFL). The data set contains information on beetle sample and species identification details, the number of individual specimens sampled, the age class of individuals and any relevant comments for each observation in the data set.

The record contains information on the annual fire history of 33 one-hectare plots in Karawatha Forest Park, Karawatha Peri-Urban Site, South-East Queensland. The plots are at 500 m intervals in a grid that covers the entire Park. Each plot follows the elevational contour and is 250 m long x 40 m wide. The data presented is on fire event history for each plot for the years 2000 to 20006, time since fire in each plot and the average frequency of fires in each plot per year.

This dataset contains records of vascular plant species from selected TERN AusPlots in South Australia. Preparation from raw data involved extraction of all vouchered species from the plots, the removal of intra-specific taxa (only genus and species used to define individual taxa) and removal of duplicate records and those not determined to species. Species list has been appended in this record.

The dataset provides information on the Specific Leaf Area (SLA) measurements of the species <i>Dodonaea viscosa</i> from the TERN AusPlots.

The dataset contains information on the abundance of hollow bearing trees in the Karawatha Peri-Urban site recorded from between 2006 and 2009. There is information on the tree species name, diameter at breast height, tree alive status, and a number of attributes related to the hollows, such as its location, height, length, width and the type.

The AEKOS Australian Vegetation sPlot dataset consists of high quality, well-described plot-based data extracted from the AEKOS (portal.aekos.org.au) on 11/11/2014. The data includes vegetation records for the following datasets: Australian Ground Cover Reference Sites Database, Biological Survey of South Australia - Vegetation Survey - Biological Database of South Australia, Atlas of NSW database: VIS flora survey module, Queensland CORVEG Database, TERN AusPlots Rangelands, Transect for Environmental Monitoring and Decision Making (TREND), AusCover Supersites SLATS Star Transects, Biological Survey of the Ravensthorpe Range (Western Australia). The portal's vegetation plot data was extracted using the portal's download feature to obtain the full extent of available data for the all datasets. In addition, an average cover value was calculated for each site using a slight modification of the ingestion scripts normally used to ingest the source data into AEKOS. The altitude values derived from a map layer using the site coordinates were obtained from the AEKOS index. Finally, land use and vegetation type were derived from map layers using the site coordinates. These data were loaded in different tables of a PostgreSQL database. Subsequently, two SQL queries were built to centralise the available data in two tables: table r_site containing the site specific data and table r_speciesobservations containing the individual data on observed specimen. A PostgreSQL backup file containing these two table was then built using the pg_dump tool. The dataset can be reused for contintental-wide or global synthesis of the cover of Australian vegetation.
