Wood block decomposition assessment at the Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt site is part of a global program looking at the influence of microbes and invertebrates on wood decay. A common protocol was developed exposing small (~400 cm3) pieces of a wood-substrate (untreated Pinus radiata) to the environment excluding and not-excluding macroinvertebrates (e.g. termites) by the use of a plastic mesh.

This terrestrial LiDAR dataset captures detailed vegetation structural information at the Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt SuperSite in the Wombat State Forest, near Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. The purpose of this data is to enhance understanding of vegetation dynamics and ecosystem function in the region. The dataset is part of a broader collection of Terrestrial LiDAR data acquired from all TERN SuperSites, aimed at achieving a standardized and highly detailed capture of 3D vegetation structure across Australia.

This data contains ant abundance and incidence collected in the core 1 ha plot within the Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt site.
-
This data contains stem diameter, height measurement and above ground living biomass calculations for a Stringybark Eucalypt dominated woodland. Diameter and height measurements for stems ≥10cm diameter at breast height were sampled in 2014 and 2018 within the core 1 ha plot within the Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt site.

This dataset contains bird occurrence data collected at the Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt site in 2015.

This dataset contains audio files for Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt SuperSite. The site was established in 2010 in the Wombat State Forest in Central Victoria. The site is dry eucalypt forest with main species Eucalyptus obliqua, Eucalyptus radiata and Euclayptus rubida. For additional site information, see Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt SuperSite

In 2020 four acoustic recorders were set up to collect audio data continuously as part of the Australian Acoustic Observatory (A2O) project. Two recorders were placed in relatively wet habitats and two in relatively dry habitats.

High quality digital site reference images are captured for the core 1 hectare vegetation plot of the site on an annual basis to provide context for researchers to understand the general layout and vegetation of the study site, and as a visual reference to monitor any changes over time. Photopoints are taken annually using the five point photo-point method. The set of images for each year usually consists of twenty images: four images taken at each corner of the plot facing each of the four cardinal points, and four images taken from the center of the plot facing each corner.

The site was established in 2010 in the Wombat State Forest in Central Victoria.
This dataset contains audio files for TERN Wombat Stringybark Eucalypt SuperSite. Long-term recordings of the environment can be used to identify sound sources of interest, characterise the soundscape, aid in the assessment of fauna biodiversity, monitor temporal trends and track environmental changes.

The site was established in 2010 in the Wombat State Forest in Central Victoria. The recording schedule aimed at capturing morning and evening bird choruses while minimizing memory and battery requirements. Ther recorder was intially installed near the flux tower. In July 2017 it was moved to the centre of the core 1 Ha plot. A long-term spectrogram has been generated for each audio file to aid in data exploration. The sensor also recorded temperature, minimum- maximum- and mean-sound pressure levels.

Data are made available through the data link.
