We measured 5 years of growth of 335 Cyathea australis and Dicksonia antarctica after a large wildfire in 2009 in south-eastern Australia. The ferns were in 4 separate geographic locations (Wallaby Creek, Marysville, Toolangi and O’Shannassy) and sites within each area had different environmental variables, which were measured (slope, aspect, elevation). Tree ferns had overall height measured using a tape measure and the new post-fire growth measured using calipers. The tree ferns were measured to determine average growth rates of the two species and which of the environmental variables were important for fern growth. We found growth rates of these two species were largely unaffected by static environmental variables or geographic location. However, growth rates were significantly related to initial height at the time of the fire; a finding consistent in both species and all geographic locations. These data underpinned the conclusions and analysis in the paper "Non-linear growth in tree ferns, Dicksonia antarctica and Cyathea australis" by David P. Blair, Wade Blanchard, Sam C. This vegetation survey data package comprises standardised vegetation condition measurements, which were first conducted in 2004 and then repeated in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2017 using vegetation structure plots (1 m x 1 m, 20 m x 20 m) nested within 1 ha sites. Within the 100 m x 100 m 1 ha survey site, two 20 m x 20 m plots are located along a central transect at the 20–40 m and 60–80 m points. Within each of the 20 m x 20 m plots are four 1 m x 1 m subplots. Plot data are measured in two 20 m x 20 m plots at each site. Ground cover is measured in four 1 m x 1 m subplots located within each 20 m x 20 m plot. Landscape context variables are measured in polygons of 200 m and 500 m radii around each field site. Much of Booderee National Park was burned by wildfire in December 2003. The Jervis Bay Booderee National Park Plot Network was established in 2002 in Booderee National Park in the Jervis Bay Territory, south-eastern Australia. The study location is a floristically diverse area in which fire history has been well-documented over several decades. The plot network’s objectives involve quantifying the inter-relationships between natural disturbance and/or management intervention (including weed and feral animal control and prescribed burning) and the reciprocal changes in vegetation condition and biodiversity response. This particular study forms part of the collection of data packages from the Jervis Bay Booderee National Park Plot Network. <p> This data set provides the photosynthetic pathways for 4832 species recorded across plots surveyed by Australia’s Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) between 2011 and May 2022 (inclusive). TERN survey plots are 1 ha (100 x 100 m) permanently established sites located in a homogeneous area of terrestrial vegetation. At each plot, TERN survey teams record vegetation composition and structural characteristics and collect a range of plant samples using a point-intercept method. Species were assigned a photosynthetic pathway using literature and carbon stable isotope analysis of bulk tissue collected by TERN at the survey plots. </p><p>The data set is comprised of one data table that contains a list of each species and its photosynthetic pathway, and one metadata file which provides a data descriptor that defines data values and a list of all the peer-reviewed sources used to create this data set. </p> Version 1 (2020) included the photosynthetic pathways of 2428 species recorded across TERN plots surveyed between 2011 and 2017 (inclusive) and was originally published in 2020. Key updates in version 2 (2024) include an expanded species list and updated taxonomy were applicable </p>

<p>Fixed cameras installed at the Tumbarumba Wet Eucalypt SuperSite provide a time series of fine scale data as a long-term record of vegetation structure and condition. This dense time series of phenocam images provides data for analysis of ecological responses to climate variability, and when consolidated across the entire terrestrial ecosystem research network, supports calibration and validation of satellite-derived remote sensing data, ensuring delivery of higher quality results for broader scale environmental monitoring products.</p> <p>Images are captured regularly during daylight hours. Images and data products for a region-of-interest (ROI) that delineates an area of specific vegetation type, are made available on a six monthly basis.</p> <p>The Tumbarumba Flux site was established in 2000 by CSIRO and started measurements in 2001. The 1 hectare (ha) SuperSite plot was established in 2015 in a collaboration with TERN. The overstorey is dominated by <em>Eucalyptus delegatensis</em> (alpine ash) and <em>Eucalyptus dalrympleana</em> (mountain gum).
