Calperum Mallee Stem Diameter, Height and Aboveground Woody Biomass Data
This data contains stem diameter, height measurement and above ground living biomass calculations for a Mallee Eucalypt dominated woodland from 2015 - present. Diameter and height measurements for stems were sampled within the core 1 ha plot within the Calperum Mallee site.

- Purpose
- This dataset records tree diameter and height data used to calculate above-ground biomass across vegetation types in Australia. This data is important for mapping and monitoring changes in plant growth, carbon storage and terrestrial energy fluxes.

- Description
- The Calperum Mallee site is in a mallee semi-arid ecosystem, fringing the River Murray floodplains on Calperum Station, near Renmark, South Australia. The area comprises undulating mallee woodlands and riverine vegetation alongside the river.

- Classification
- Unclassified
- Supplemental Information
- Due to a wildfire event in 2014, the presence of lignotuber regrowth did not allow identification to species-level. All trees were identified to genus level ("field_species_name" column in data denotes potential species types). The coordinate system used to located the position of individual stems does not match exactly between the 2015 and 2018 time points and will not give exact repeatability at the individual tree level between the two time points. Accordingly, the unique plant identifier (plant_id column in data) do not represent the same individual stem between 2015 and 2018.

- Statement
- Tree survey:
A vegetation survey was carried out at the core 1 ha plot at the Calperum Mallee site in 2015. Tree diameter at 10 cm above the ground and height were measured for all stems within the core 1 ha plot. The vegetation was mostly regrowth from lignotubers following near complete destruction on above ground biomass during a wildfire event on 17 Jan 2014.
Biomass calculation:
Aboveground tree biomass was estimated from above measurements using Eucalyptus-specific allometric equations as detailed in the following publication: Paul, K.I., Roxburgh, S.H., England, J.R., Ritson, P., Hobbs, T., Brooksbank, K., John Raison, R., Larmour, J.S., Murphy, S., Norris, J., Neumann, C., Lewis, T., Jonson, J., Carter, J.L., McArthur, G., Barton, C., Rose, B., 2013.
