- Bird surveys at the Litchfield Savanna site were conducted in May 2015 across four plots using a using a combination of line transects and point counts. Three walking transects were performed in the mornings and then again in the afternoons for each plot. Bird surveys were established to detect the maximum number of species by targeting the different habitat types surrounding the tower. Transect distance ranged from 3 – 6 km, with a total of 29 kms walked during the survey period. Point counts were performed every 500 m along the transect and all bird species heard and/or seen were recorded. Survey duration lasted between two and four hours based on the overall bird activity and as detectability decreased over time (due to the time of day and temperature).
